WRITERSPODIUM - The reasons for its existence...
WRITERSPODIUM - The reasons for its existence... (WRITERSPODIUM - not to be confused with the infamous WRITERSPLATFORM - a totally different and long-term initiative.) Money, Money, Money Without a doubt the bottom line for WRITERSPODIUM is, that it is there to make money. The efforts that have been taken to get WD to fund itself have been exhaustive and comprehensive, however the pilot schemes that we are working on, are going to be mid to long-term in regards to income. WD needs cash injections now, because it needs its cutting-edge, bespoke content management system - now.
There are a lot of cynics out there. A lot of people wonder at my motivations and why I do what I do. What does Sonny get from his efforts with WD? Why does he do it? Surely the effort that he puts in is only to shaft us later on?
Well three years down the line, I'm still hearing this and I don't think that this kind of conjecture is ever going to fade away. I'm still some kind of con-man, only it hasn't been proven yet! A con that lasts three years is a pretty long-term investment. Surely some of the conjecture should go away after so long? Well I digress. I'm sure that most of you don't think like this, so let's not say another word about it.
WRITERSPODIUM... Yes, like I've said, WP is all about making money. In searching for a cash-injection, I've come up with a scheme that will make money from writing - utilising Google Adsense. Here is the blurb in a nutshell from Google about its adsense scheme.
| Some smart guy at Google wrote: |
| Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant, unobtrusive Google ads on their website's content pages and earn money. |
WRITERSPODIUM's content management system - that's the software that runs a site like WRITERSPODIUM. A similar piece of software runs Writers' Dock - yes, WRITERSPODIUM's content management system is really set up to take articles rather like HELIUM. I'll tell you how that relates to you, the short story writer, or the poet in just a moment.
Without a doubt, HELIUM makes some of its money from Google Adsense. What percentage of its income, I couldn't tell you. Funnily enough, I've just
found an article on HELIUM's site about the kind of Adsense revenue sharing sites that WRITERSPODIUM is set to become. It also looks like HELIUM revenue-shares it's Google Adsense profits, though at the time of this writing, I couldn't tell you the percentages. Presently, WRITERSPODIUM offers an even 50/50 percent split. If WRITERSPODIUM became a success, then it will alter this percentage in the writer's favor. (After three years, I'm sure that you would realise that I'm not greedy!)
From a money-making point of view, here is how WRITERSPODIUM works - a crude example:
- someone somewhere makes a search on Google for a subject on (say) insurance - any subject whatsoever, but "insurance" is an example
- somewhere on WRITERSPODIUM somebody has written an article about insurance
- because WRITERSPODIUM is an adsense enterprise, articles/content - articles/stories/poetry/rants/blogs/whatever ("content") - that have been deposited on WRITERSPODIUM about insurance will show up in the Google search
- now here's the thing: the searcher is looking for information about insurance. He'll be interested in well written content about "insurance" - and the Google Adsense advertisements
- the better and more relevent the content, the higher up the rankings the content will be - do you see?
A case study - short story, poetry, other content writer
- you've written something
- you decide that you can't/don't want to/ won't publish it in a conventional manner
- you know that it costs you naff-all to sub it to WRITERSPODIUM and that you might make money from it in that way
- you understand that the content of the story/poem/whatever might correspond to a Google search and therefore encourage somebody to click on the link to your piece.
- the guy may or may not be interested in what you have written, but he IS likely to be interested in the adsense adverts that appear on that page
- he clicks the link and you have a 50/50 chance of earning the money
- its cost you naff all
- you realise that if you do this with everything that you've written that isn't subable in the convention way, you could earn a decent bonus once in a while
- you also realise that you are building a portfolio that somebody might be interested in, or not, who knows? I'm not pcychic, but I - and now hopefully you - can see possibilities
- you realise that, as somebody who enjoys the free use of WD, that as it costs you nothing; that you gain from the use of WD and that you have the potential to earn money from WRITERSPODIUM, that this is also a way that you might help to contribute to the longevity of Writers' Dock!
A case study - working the system - article writers
- somebody who wants to exploit the system, writes an article - in this case about insurance (say) - and subs it to WRITERSPODIUM
- he follows the tips and tricks that I intend to post in this forum as soon as I am able
- he utilises specialist knowledge that he already has - or - he researches his subject, writes the article and posts it
- he may even monitor current trends, research and write about them - in an effort to make more money
- GOOGLE ADSENSE SUPPLIES ADVERTISEMENTS ON THAT PAGE THAT REFLECTS THE CONTENT OF THAT PAGE - In this case, advertisements selling insurance.
- he might do this once a week, once a month or whatever, but he'll soon build up a stack of articles that will potentially earn him money
- he might have other reasons for doing this - practicing his writing? I don't know - we have a lot of Flashers maybe some writers might be interested in this angle - whatever. It WILL be good practice - the writing and the researching AND you could earn from it.
- what's the problem? Some higher profile sites than WRITERSPODIUM presently is already do this.
A case study - The Blogger
- WRITERSPODIUM supports blogs
- become a trusted author (a regular guy from Writers' Dock perhaps) and you can blog if you wish
- earn 50% of the adsense revenue that your blog creates
- have a blog elsewhere? Do you earn from it? No? Costs you nuffink to blog on WRITERSPODIUM and earn, right?
- considered starting a blog? Start it on your PODIUM and a by-product could be that you gain a readership...
- you could advertise it in your signature on WD and Google will come a-spidering/a-visiting by following the link
- have I missed anything out?
Well, that was quick; I was tired; I might have got it all down; I might not have. I'll check tomorrow and add something if I think of it.
Actually, I have something to add right now:
All I can see is that:
Everyone's a winner!
Tell me I'm wrong?
Sonny..
