There's lots of coming and going in the office just now. I told someone on the phone that the person he was looking for had left the organisation, only to find he had received an email from her that day - a temp with a similar name to a girl who left.  There are two, or maybe three temps at the moment.  Two people have left in the last couple of weeks and there's another leaving do coming up.  I don't like to be heartless, but when people leave every week the amount you can put into the envelope does shrink, and another leaving do doesn't sound too appealing.

But, of course, more p
eople are coming.  So many, in fact, that they're talking about putting in more desks.  "Where?" goes up the (sotto voce) cry.  They want to fit two more desks into our quiet little corner.  The only place I can see is in front of cupboards that are used every day, and even then one desk would be tight.  I think we'll have to revert to the plan we came up with when the offices merged in the first place - a mezzanine floor.  It's an ordinary low-roofed office, so it would just be the shortest people who could fit.  I think they should start taking height into consideration when hiring the replacement staff.
